On addiction

There’re two kinds of addictions that you escape to when you're in deep shit:

One: addiction on something that makes you forget the shit you're in.
Two: addiction on something that makes you feel bad so you eventually surrender to the fact that you deserve to be in that shit.

While the two types are absolutely obnoxious, I found the first one -despite being the deadly one- much nicer in comparison with the second one.

In the first type, you’re addicted to substance, whether it’s alcohol or a drug. This substance will make you forget all about your problems. It will make you feel safer, more loved. It will give you minutes or even hours of happiness. Of course, the happiness never lasts.

On the other hand, in the second type, you’re addicted to a habit. You do it intentionally to hurt yourself. And you never get a glance of happiness during the procedure. Whether you’re addicted to food, sex or any other kind of self hurt, you belong to that group. You do it because there’s nothing else to do but to indulge yourself in the habit. You wake up to find the hole in your soul had gone deeper.

I have encountered both types in my life, and I know the road to salvation. The cycle has to stop immediately. You have to replace the negative parts of your daily routine with positive ones. You still get to keep your addiction, only this time you’re addicted to something good. That explains why you see over-weights easily and over a short period of times extremely downsized, because they replaced food addiction with an addiction to exercise.
